A Homeless Persons Routine and the Future with AI
I created a post back in '23 when I was living at Phoenix House (now it's known as Harmony House for Women). It discusses what I felt was wrong with the place I was living at. A lot of it might sound negative but it still doesn't discredit the reality of the situation.
Living at a halfway sucks. It's worse than choosing a roommate on Craigslist because we don't get to choose who we live with and we don't get to choose how we live. The case managers who create a discharge plan on our behalf upon completing a residential treatment program will only help us realize those plans might never be fulfilled because halfway houses do whatever possible to retain someone in their system. Thats probably why some of these places are constantly getting recycled and flipped into some other name.
Here are some of the ways I've tried mitigating my housing instability.
When I studied acting in college, the most fundamental lesson we learn is The Physical Objective. It is the base layer of a scene and what makes up all our lives. People who are really good at acting could tell when a person doesn't put much thought into the way they move because actors have a keen eye for detail.
The thing I hate about these halfway houses is how they will hire a "House Manager," right? They'll make sure this is a person who has been through the process of getting themselves off the street, they've worked a program, they've worked their asses off to be where they are at but they’re not too convincing!—
If I were different, I would've given all the House Managers I've encountered in my life the run-around.
I would've started a gang, I would've started pimping, and taking contracts for whatever and whoever all while living from the comfort of a halfway house.
Take a look at Hollywood, Florida, guys. I was walking US1 from Stirling to Hollywood Blvd at night looking for a hooker sometimes because of how lonely I was getting and because of that, I think I stood out like a sore thumb because, "What the fuck is Hector doing looking for hookers on the street, being as good looking as he is?" No one would want some. They know I don't deserve 'em.
The streets will do that for ya'.
Hollywood seems to have been gentrified and the process started in 2022, bro. I might not have anything to do with politics, but I know my dumbass is being used to litigate some of the atrocities being committed by some of these idiots without passports and shit.
It starts from the inside.
I love to mention Newton's First Law of Motion because it really applies to my life. Whenever I'm minding my business and someone enters the trajectory of my path-- EVERYTHING goes to shit for them.
Motherfuckers I wanted gone: gone.
Bitches who were always asking for shit: gone.
People in authority looking to exploit my story: Now they're like, "Yes, sir. No, sir."
"The number one commodity in the world is information," that's what Gordon Gecko says on Wall Street and I learned this at an early age.
I know if I got ahead and study the person I'm roomed with, I'll be more equipped to deal with whatever drama they will throw my way. The people who usually decide to start drama with me have no idea how much experience I have dealing with dudes who want to have sex with me. This is why conviction I have toward my diagram called A Spectrum of Addiction is so vast and why I want to try to help with alleviating some of the misconceptions we carry about sexual orientation, while answering one of the most important questions in criminology, “Why do people kill?”
All these guys and girls who love to run around 'being themselves' are considered sexual deviants in my book. These are the people who have sex for no reason. They don't know why they want to have sex and chances are, they aren't worthy of having sex either.
A homeless persons routine consists of nothing but eating, sleeping, and taking a shit. That's all they're entitled to. But sex? Everyone suffers from a sexual addiction...doesn't matter how rich or poor we are. But homeless people...?
Why are homeless people having sex when they can't even deal with the possibility of a pregnancy?
Is that really a reason to justify the problem we are having with sexuality now a days?
Consider a homeless persons routine before deciding to implement any solutions for this problem. I really don't think most people are doing their homework because I've dealt with a lot of people in a position of authority who make assumptions about my character and then fail to acknowledge how wrong they were for treating me how they did.
It doesn't make sense to create a separate company accommodating port-a-potties-- people are still going to OD in them.
It doesn't make sense to give away food if we're still going to be throwing most of it away.
It doesn't make sense to get anyone clothes if a person still has lice.
It doesn't make sense to give anyone a job if we know they won't be able to keep it.
A homeless person is not going to be able to fix themselves if we don't grant them the space to rehabilitate. That could be a 6-12 month process.
Am I saying all homeless people should take a vacation? No! What I am saying is there are people who require different levels of care. Why aren't we aware of that? Because we're too busy being scared of the weak person on the corner begging for some fucking change.
In Miami, I used to spend 3 hours trying to eat something, use a restroom, and shower. I would have to go to three different locations to do that sometimes. I was walking 7-12 miles a day because I was being discriminated by the transit system and by the end of it, I wouldn't even be in the mood to write a post for my blog.
Now I'm in New York, all my needs are met. I spend all day looking for a job, though. For every level, there's a new devil. I'm really annoyed with the fact I can't manage to figure out what I want to do in this city because there seems to be about 100 people applying for any job opportunity we see on the market.
Artificial Intelligence is really going to change the way we look at the world and I'm really excited to see that. I spent most of my life doing what I love, it would be a shame to have done that in vain. I see a lot of people losing their jobs in the future and I know that eventually we'll be able to solve the problem with homelessness, however, what kind of problems are we going to encounter in the future?
Are we going to start an argument with the doctors being put out of their profession because we don't believe they put as much work into their field as a super computer would? Are we going to start holding doctors accountable because some of them might be acting out on their personal biases?
If people were to implement physiological monitoring the same way we used to for a polygraph to study patients so a computer could judge whether a person is telling the truth or not-- what do you think that would do to the world?
We'd be living in a world where accountability is no longer mitigated by a human.
This would change how we process patients through the intake process at a shelter. I don’t really believe there are enough social workers out on the field to help people. I also don’t believe there are enough medical staff to be able to handle the workload at a shelter either.
I say that because it takes a minute to see a doctor, and when we see one, it might be a general practitioner or a nurse practitioner. These are people who don’t study psychiatry but can prescribe medication with restrictions. We won’t be able to attain the good stuff, but we’d be able to maintain our medication regiment if it’s a serious one. These doctors who see us at a shelter don’t see us for too much time either. It’s just a risk assessment to check whether or not you want to kill yourself.
With computers, with the touch of a button, I see all these physiological responses being drawn out on a diagram using a computer (EKG), the computer will be able to determine any medical conditions, any possible psychiatric conditions, and all within a certain time frame.
With the help of a human being, a person is going to be able to expedite a more qualitative process using a computer of this caliber. People are going to be happier because they will be getting the help they need and the medication they require, thus, the risk of a mental relapse decreases for these guys.
Medicine is a big deal when being on the streets. If it wasn’t for the city, what other hospital would we be able to go to? Being prepared with a first aid kit was always something I liked working on when I was growing up in college. I’ve had three different toiletries bags in this lifetime.
I guess it’s a little extreme to think AI could eliminate the need for workers in medicine, but that can’t be true. It’s possible the population of people working could be reduced before starting a transition into using computers wisely to teach people how to help others with this technology. I have a lot of hope this will bring a little more to the homeless community because there aren’t many people who are convinced by a doctor these days to accept help.
Maybe a computer would help them feel motivated.
